5 GHz-only network MOST COMMON
No Dreame robot vacuum joins 5 GHz Wi-Fi — the official articles and every manual FAQ repeat it. A 5 GHz-only SSID or aggressive band steering leaves the robot with nothing to join.
Location permission or Bluetooth off
Dreame's official setup guide is blunt — without the app's location permission and the phone's Bluetooth on, "the network configuration will fail". Both apps use them to find the robot.
Wrong app for the model's era
F9, the D9 family, Z10 Pro, L10 Pro and W10 pair through Mi Home/Xiaomi Home per their manuals; L10s Ultra and everything newer pairs through Dreamehome. The wrong app never finds the robot.
Weak signal or leaving the robot's hotspot early
Officially, robot and phone must sit close to the router, and after joining the robot's hotspot you must wait for its voice prompt before returning to the app — bailing early kills the handover.
Router features the robot can't handle UNCOMMON
Dreame documents three blockers — special characters in the Wi-Fi name or password, MAC-address filtering or whitelists, and WPA3-only encryption on L40 Ultra AE, L10s Pro Ultra Heat and L20 Ultra Complete, which need WPA2.
HOW TO FIX IT
Put the setup on 2.4 GHz
Select the 2.4 GHz SSID in the app; on dual-band routers, split out a 2.4 GHz network name or disable band steering for the join.
Use the right app
Pair F9, D9 family, Z10 Pro, L10 Pro and W10 with Mi Home/Xiaomi Home; pair L10s Ultra and newer with Dreamehome — the QR code on the robot points at the right one.
Grant permissions before pairing
Enable the app's location permission and switch on the phone's Bluetooth, then start the add-device flow from scratch.
Stay close and wait for the voice prompt
Set up with robot, phone and router in the same room. When the app hands you to the robot's hotspot, wait until the robot speaks, then return to the app and let the progress finish.
Simplify the router for the join
Use only English letters and numbers in the Wi-Fi name and password, disable MAC filtering, and set WPA2 on L40 Ultra AE, L10s Pro Ultra Heat or L20 Ultra Complete — they don't support WPA3 yet.
Reset Wi-Fi before re-pairing
On models with Spot Clean and Dock buttons, hold both until the robot says "Waiting for network configuration" and the Wi-Fi light blinks slowly. Button layouts vary, so use the diagram in your model's manual if those labels are different; reset Wi-Fi only, not the factory settings that erase maps and schedules.
Cross-validate and escalate
Try a second phone, or pair against one phone's hotspot as the official cross-check. If it still fails, send Dreame support the robot's SN code, your app account ID and a screen recording of the attempt.
